Striped but not like that.

I have loved the horizontal striped wall trend for a while.  I want to do it but I am afraid I won't love it because I have seen it so much...it won't feel fresh...just copied.  Ya know?  So I am looking for inspiration for something stripy but different.  Here is some inspiration.

I saw this episode of HGTV's Design Star.  Most of the things they do on design shoes are forgettable.  This has stayed on my mind for weeks.  I love it.  I love that it is in the corner and that there is paint splatter.  Would this fit in my home?  No.  But I wish I could.  Anyway, I know it isn't stripes at all...but the corner is what I like.

Yowza!!!  Like an optical illusion where you see two images....all at once I see a room I love and a room I hate.  I can't settle on one.  Walls!  Floor! Ceiling! Baseboards!  

Pull me in

Through reading blogs I see lots of pictures of rooms.  Every now and then I look at a picture and the room pulls me in.  I literally feel a pull towards it.  All of the elements are so in sync that the room has an energy that just pulls. me. in.

Good God this room is amazing.  The color, the curtains, the CONSOLE(!!), the dog picture.  So good. I saw this on Blue Hydrangea today.  It is originally from Lonny.

Something interesting.  On the whole....I am freaking for this room.  When I look at each thing I am hot or cold....I love love the things I mentioned already.   I am not sure I would ever purchase antlers, wreaths (I know I wouldn't purchase a wreath...I have a thing), the white upholstered chair....I'm not sure I even like them....but they work!

Purple Pleasure

(Wow.  Her legs are thin!)  Purple has been catching my eye lately....someone is doing their job.  A year ago I would not have dreamt of wearing purple.  Darnit advertising agencies and designers!....you got me.

I have been watching toooo much Thomas the Tank Engine.  Why do the coaches always repeat themselves?

Anyway, my living room is slowly coming along.  This weekend we got a rug!  After much debate my husband won.  A soft comfortable rug we got.  (I love Kilims and would only own Kilims if he let me)  I know this color is going to be frustrating with kids but...it works.  Carpet shopping has proven to be too overwhelming for me.  There are so many options...colors...designs...materials....high/low pile.  ahhh.  This rug adds nice texture to the room and makes it so much more cozy and welcoming.  It's way more comfortable for the babies to play/sit/lay on.

I was talking with Susan, the woman who sold us the rug, and she makes jewelry and sells it on Etsy.  She works with metal and stones.  I want to learn metal working so badly!!  Anyway.  Always happy to meet another jewelry maker.  She makes some beautiful things.  While exploring her Etsy store I discovered she water paints too.  

I love the movements and colors of this painting.

This weekend was nuts.    B got his first stitches.  He was so tough.  Thank GOD Sean was home.  I barely kept it together...in fact, I lost it for a few minutes and had to leave the room.  He has had his entire hand bandaged for the last twenty four hours.  He has managed incredibly well.  I am impressed.

I love the dresses on Shabby Apple...as I have mentioned before.  I was exploring their site again the other day..and I ventured into the accessories section.  Why I haven't before I do not know.  I found these.  I NEED these.  Need.  Neeeed.  Need.

I was reading a post on Gorgeous Shiny Things regarding light fixtures and one of the links was wrong...I think...whatever...it was supposed to link to this light:

Instead it linked to this Etsy shop.  What a great mistake to stumble upon.

I told Sean that a painting from this shop is absolutely what I want for Christmas....or just because he loves me.  We'll see.  He's into them....so Christmas if not because he just loves me.

That chair

How is that chair only $191?  It's hand carved.  It must be extremely uncomfortable?  It's beautiful, though.  If this chair were a person I imagine he would have a petit handlebar mustache.

I don't usually pause while looking through Crate & Barrel catalogues.  I always go through once just in case.  I don't know if I have overlooked this chair in the past but this time....I paused.  The woodwork is really unique.

Maybe it will go on sale one day.

DIY inspiration

I was flipping through the Pier 1 catalogue yesterday and this pillow caught my eye.

I think any of these would be a fun diy but I really love the bolster.  I have this bolster I made when I started my blog and was getting into sewing.  It doesn't fit in anywhere now but I love the size.  Possible pillow case to fit it?  I think so.

If I had a place for this right now....

I found this ceiling lamp on Craigslist while looking for a light for my living room....I wish this is what I needed.  I have had my eye on lamps like this one for a while....I am still trying to figure out where I can put one or more.
