Something exciting...for me!

So right before I left for my friends' wedding in NJ I had my blog featured for the first time!  It was really exciting.  Danika from Gorgeous Shiny Things saw the striped chair my mom reupholstered for me and asked me to be a part of her series "The Score" where she features Before and Afters.  I have been following her blog for a while but somehow I overlooked exactly how much of a freak for color she is!  Love it.  I have been exploring old posts of hers and she has done some great things with color.  Very inspiring.

Danika is also one half of O'verlays.  If you haven't seen/heard of them them I am excited to get to tell you about them!  O'verlays are cool fretwork designs that fit Ikea's Rast and Malm furniture.  (You can see lots of pics on their site)  They can also be custom ordered to fit....anything...mirrors, doors, furniture, whatever you imagine.  I saw a picture of them used like crown molding and I am dying to do that.  I couldn't pull any of the photos from their site but here is how Bri from Me, You & a Wiener used them.  I love everything Bri does....but this might be my #1:

Also, Danika did something unexpected and amazing.  More than I could ask for.  She mentioned the Jewelry for Joey!  Thank you Danika for everything!

feel good lighting

Do you ever look at something and your eyes are not able to really "focus"on what you are looking at?  It's not that it is blurry but that it just doesn't make sense in your head.  Some part of it throws everything off.  I would say that happened with the Nick Olson room....for me something was off...no matter how many times that room shows up in a blog post it's a surprise every time I see it because it's not as I remember.

Well, I had the complete opposite reaction when I saw these lights on the Contemporist this morning.  They give me a sense of peace when I look at them.  Everything with their proportions and color and shape all make sense and I feel relieved.  If you could say the weight of the lights looks right (can you say that?) I would.  I guess the correct terminology would be proportions...?  Anyway, these lights just make me feel good.

Let's discuss...

Ya ya ya...I haven't been around the past week and a half.  Sorry.  My brother moved in.  It's awesome.   I am currently smelling the tacos he is cooking us for dinner.  Yum.  That's not the main reason it is awesome, though.  I love him.  It has been 9 YEARS since we lived in the same town.  The older I get the worse that sounds.  I have been craving my family.  Too bad none of them feel it is important to remain in one place for too long.  Maybe we will all end up near each other again.

I digress.

I want to talk about this Nick Olson room:

I saw it on EverythingLEB today.  She, like everyone, loves this room.  I don't want to be a hater but am I the only one unsettled by this room?  Is there something wrong with me?  Don't get me wrong...there are many elements I loveeeeeee.  For instance...I adore the ruffle detail on the curtains.  (I am going to do that to my room.)  I want to know where I can get the fabric of that green pillow on the bed.  And I like how the headboard fabric works in the space.  BUT.  The first thing I always see in this picture is the chevron dresser.  Every time.  But I don't like it.  I don't like the chevron flipped on its side.  I don't like the drawer pulls.  And I just don't feel like it does anything to tie the room together.  I really feel like there is something wrong with me because EVERYONE loves this room..and that dresser.

What do you think?

Kimbo Hot

I just bought these awesome bows in anticipation of W's forthcoming need for adorable hair accessories.  I am excited that she didn't go bald like B!  They are made by my childhood friend Kim who has one of the cutest little girls.  Love Facebook.  Without it I probably would not know about these bows or how cute her daughter is.   Kim has a bunch of other cute things in her shop...not all children related. Check it out here.

The best letter art I have ever seen. No, really.

I am not that huge of a typography fan but theeeeese are amazing.  I could put one in every room of my house.  I know reposts get old but these paper letters are just too breathtakingly beautiful not share with as many people as possible!  To see more (you know you want to) click here.  I found out about these letters through Tobe of Because It's Awesome.

So creative.

Made It Monday: Bracelets

woven box chains

Until I have more than a few minutes at a time to work on things Made It Mondays will most likely be jewelry.

W is slowly able to go longer and longer between feedings.  She loves to eat.  My 6 week old is in 3-6 month onesies.  Is that normal?!  B was right on the money with sizes by age if not a little behind!

Anyway.  Here are two bracelets I made this weekend.  I used mason line and large box chains.

Do I have too many legs?

Have you ever had the feeling that something was off in your room.  Something.  Something.  SOMETHING.  But what?

Did you ever think the ratio of furniture in a room with legs to furniture without legs was slightly askew?  I'm guessing no.  Me neither.

When discussing coffee table options for my living room my mom mentioned that a table without legs (a cube or something with a skirt) might suit the room better since I had so much furniture with legs.  It might help balance the room and ground things.  Huh.  Although I'm not totally sold that I will feel better or worse with legs or no legs, it's definitely something I have been considering every time I look around my living room.

Do you have an opinion about having too many legs?!

It's the little things...

So, I recently switched my keyboard from the "light" theme to the "neon" theme and every single time it pops up I feel happy.  Every. single. time.  I hope it never gets old.

Any picture I found doesn't do it justice.

Neon blue and purple keyboard....come on!

Why does this need to be a blog post?  I don't know...but if you have a neon theme I suggest you switch immediately.

Neon laces on Converse, Nikes, Vans...?  Expected.

Neon laces on beautiful boots.  Want it!

I love her blog.  I love it because of the beautiful outfits, jewelry and pictures.  I love it most, however, because she offers no personal information...almost no commentary...and yet I look forward to her posts everyday.

Boston Craigslist finds - "brass"

This morning I searched "brass" on Craigslist and here is what turned up that I would like to buy.

I really want these lamp tables.  Really.  I would paint them and love them.  They are especially tempting because they are just down the street at the Antique Co-op.

I think this Chinese medicine cabinet is pretty cool.   If this wasn't $300 and seemingly old and valuable I would love to buy it and paint it....

Peacock-esque fireplace screen, anyone?  If only I had a fireplace...

Solid brass post office boxes.  Interesting.  Only $250?  Crazy. Someone go get them!

I love that this hutch is described as handsome.  I love the woodwork over the glass doors and the hardware.  Only $350!  It doesn't disassemble in anyway, though!  Yikes.

Now this is what I am talking about

Those necklaces from yesterday that literally took trim and other notions and made necklaces.....not so much.  THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!

Diamond zippers.  Beautiful zippers.  I'm really not into diamonds but these are amazing.  Diamond lace....gem tassels.  Thank you, Van Cleef and Arpels.  Thank you for showing me that I must force myself to like the DIY versions of yesterday's post...b/c I will never ever be able to afford to wear a diamond zipper.

Would it be too much to ask for this for my 5 year anniversary this year?

How many years do I have to wait for diamonds??

60 years!!!???!!!

Ahh...Well, maybe by then we will be bazillionaires.

Slow pace

I've got so many ideas it's killing me how slowly I get to work on them!!!!!!  Just needed a moment to vent.

A WOW and a What the...

Bottega Veneta via Style.com

I like things that "weird me out in a good way".  Like in this past post.  When I saw this necklace I felt equal parts awe and revulsion.  This necklace was like an optical illusion.  As a whole it seems quite beautiful but as my vision shifts to the see each part I'm no't quite sure what I am looking at anymore. As the beauty becomes confused I get goosebumps.

The color. It's all just a cold, unwelcoming gray.  Then, the gem shaped metal bits...what are they?  Metal?  That's my guess.  Then...the backing?  It looks like something from the ocean....but dead.  Would it be weird to say this necklace reminds me of the corpse of a necklace?  All in all I really like it but not because it is beautiful.

Then there are these:

WTF?

Speaking of WTF...I might think these are cooler if they were done as a DIY on HonestlyWTF.  Ha.

I'm just not sure.

I see what you did there: Rapping Paper

This was a good way to start the day.

Made it Monday: Jewelry

Having a young baby has made my time to work on projects both unpredictable and shorter in length.  It has been perfect for catching up on my jewelry projects which has kept the creativity flowing.  I don't know what it is like for you guys but I get more and better ideas if my creative muscles don't take a break.  Light workout include working on ideas in a journal that I carry with me everywhere.  Heavy workouts are actually carrying out those ideas.

I got the Jewelry for Joey pendants done.  I posted about the Jewelry for Joey earrings last Monday.  The pendant is very similar.  The pearl and bead are larger and the green bead is a different shape.  It is $10 and all proceeds go to the Howell family.

The pendant hangs from two braids and two chains.

These are two necklaces I added to my Etsy shop.  The top necklace is extremely long.  The bottom necklace is a conservative length.  For details go here.

I didn't post much last week.  It is strange how you can miss a blog.  Every alone moment I had last week was used to recover from the terrible twos taking over my house.  This week, as long as the terrible twos allow it, I will be posting regularly again.
